A trade order gets the taker fee if the trade order is matched immediately against an order already on the order book, which removes liquidity from the order book.

Example: You bid $1.00 to buy XYZ Token, and the lowest price anyone is selling it for on the order book is $1.00. The order is immediately filled & completed.

Your $1 buy bid is “taking” liquidity from the order book since your offer is immediately matched and “takes” your order amount off the book and into your wallet.
