With bitcoin taking off this year, many people find themselves wishing they’d invested in it a few years ago, when it was worth a lot less. Those people might just have another chance to get in on the bitcoin action.
Lottoland, one of Ireland’s most popular lottery operators is providing a chance to win a whole bunch of bitcoin worth millions of dollars. Anyone interested can play for a chance to win. The lottery isn’t limited to the Republic of Ireland.
Entrants can pick six numbers to be entered to win the jackpot which currently sits at 1,025 BTC. Obviously the chances of winning are rather slim, but Lottoland is certain there will be a lot of people interested in playing.
Lottoland has a reputation for offering controversial games, having allowed people to bet on lotteries held in other areas, such as America’s Powerball and Europe’s Mega Millions. This tactic seems to have worked well, because the company has gained a large market share in the Emerald Isle.
Lottoland plans to cash in on the current global cryptocurrency craze by offering its own bitcoin lottery. On its website is the statement, “The world is going Bitcoin bonkers and so are we!”
The daily drawing, scheduled for 8:30pm GMT Monday through Saturday, holds a 1,000+ BTC jackpot. Players who match up all six numbers on their cards will win the $18 million jackpot. However, smaller payouts are also available to win. One out of every seven bets will win some kind of prize. The players that win will then have the choice to accept their prize in the form of fiat currency or have the value of their prize sent as cryptocurrency straight into their virtual wallet.
Lottoland has experienced amazing success, bringing in revenues of around $355m per year, and employing over 300 people. The company has close to six million customers, many who live outside of Ireland.
“Bitcoin is a worldwide phenomenon, and Lottoland is giving our customers the opportunity to get involved in the big league,” shared Graham Ross, the company’s manager.
This is a great opportunity for the few lucky people that take the chance and win. It will be interesting to see if the winners choose the multi-million payout to be delivered in bitcoin, or in regular money. With many speculating that bitcoin will continue to skyrocket in value, possibly even reaching the $100,000 mark one day, Lottoland’s offer is obviously gaining a lot of interest.
